In this video you will learn about your Autonomic Nervous system (ANS) from a Polyvagal Theory point of view. We will practice some ways to “stimulate” the vagus nerve to help our nervous systems relax. We also look at stress reactions for each type along with ways to de-stress and balance. You will be invited to map your own nervous system responses on your own this week with the guidance of the handouts. Pay attention to your triggers this week and also what helps you get out of the fight/flight or freeze.
Handouts include:
- Vagus Nerve stimulation techniques
- Two Mapping the nervous system handouts – one that includes fight/flight and freeze and the 2nd one is for “ventral vagal state”. You will be asked to call to mind the various states of stress to tune into yourself so you can recognize the somatic signs of these states so you can then learn to pause and breathe. Please do something to shake off the states after the exercises!
- Reflection questions for week 4
- Stress triggers (not covered in the presentation) and ways to de-stress specific for each type. These suggestions take into consideration wings and arrows (other type qualities that are helpful for your type for balance).
