In this session we reviewed the 3 aversive responses that all mammals experience when needs are not met: anger, distress and fear. We also looked at how the body types assert external and internal boundaries so they are not affected by reality. These boundaries cut them off from experiencing much of what life has to offer. Through embracing vulnerability, conflict and imperfections, body types can truly come into their power with potential to EMBODY their true essence thus having a profound effect on reality.
When we truly inhabit our body center, which is our instinctive center, it gives us a profound sense of stability, fullness, autonomy, or independence. This is the physical aspect of being in our Essence. When we lose contact with our Essence, the personality attempts to fill in by creating a false sense of autonomy using the strategies of the different types- 8,9, and 1: asserting against, withdrawing and attempting to control.
By embracing our reactions with compassionate somatic presence, we can create safety within and heal the younger parts of ourselves. That allows the heart to open and the mind to finally relax. Practicing the felt sense of the breath and our sensations brings us back to the present moment which is where our Essence or Christed Self is already BEING.
The handouts for this month include the Self-Compassion handout that includes the “fierce self-compassion” practice and a the handout that summarizes some of the main teachings from this session.
Be patient with yourselves moving forward as you integrate this material! I am grateful for your participation and looking forward to connecting again soon.
